Recently, Ingle Farm Primary School made the decision to support their students' education in sustainability by purchasing a Double Sink Bench from Salvage and Save Goolwa.
Alongside purchasing a product that suited the aesthetic needs of their kitchen and garden space, Ingle Farm Primary School chose Goolwa Salvage and Save for our dedication to providing sustainable outcomes to all items and materials that are donated to us – an important lesson in recycling and environmentally conscious and friendly practices that they want to instill in their students! The Goolwa team were also able to work closely with Ingle Farm Primary, to design and build a product that fitted the needs, size specifications and functionality the school required.
With the support and skills from our team at Salvage and Save, Ingle Farm Primary School have created so much more than an imaginative play space for their students – taking the steps to install the sink as a usable appliance in the school yard.
“The students now have a safe and functional place to wash their hands, clean harvested vegetables and fill up watering cans,” Garden and Kitchen Specialist teacher, Sue, said.
“And the excess overflow water is used to water our pot plants – reinforcing the [schools] sustainability focus.”
By choosing Salvage and Save Goolwa, not only has Ingle Farm Primary School chosen a business that not only cares about environmental sustainability, but also acts in the interest of diverting as much quality goods and materials away from landfill as possible. All materials, and the other goods that are donated to our three Salvage and Save sites (Goolwa, Elizabeth and Windmill Hill) are reused and upcycled into handmade products and furnishings that are fondly received by our customers for a fair price.
In addition to the services provided to ensure quality goods and materials find second chances in the community, Goolwa Salvage and Save also supports seventeen people living with a disability to engage in meaningful employment at our site. Our NDIS Participants, all different ages and abilities are encouraged to explore and develop their skills in all the aspects of Salvage and Save, from woodworking and construction of goods from recycled materials, customer service skills, money handling, and even delivery and pick up of donations at customer’s homes, all while participating in meaningful paid employment.
Learning all these skills and more in a supported environment of employment allows each person to create more opportunities and better outcomes and develop themselves to be the best they can be.
With the installation of the Double Sink Bench, Ingle Farm Primary school has added more educational value to their outdoor learning space where the children can develop their knowledge and skills. Not only providing the capabilities for students to grow their practical understanding of why and how to live sustainably, but also provides a fun space where the students can engage, play, and learn as part of their development to becoming the best they can be in the future.
By providing more opportunities in the local community, many little seeds will grow into mighty trees, creating better outcomes in which everyone can be the best they can be.
