Since joining our In-Stitches team in Mount Barker, Hugh has had the opportunities and support he needed to develop his sewing and crochet skills, in fact, he has excelled so far in his craft that he now has creative control over one of our most unique In-Stitches products!

In 2022, Hugh came to Mobo Group seeking to pursue his interest in craft and creativity. Living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hugh had previously been employed at Electronic Recycling Australia, when he decided that he would like to explore more employment opportunities that allowed him to unleash his creative side.

In the early days of engaging in meaningful employment at In-Stitches, we supported Hugh to learn how to use the sewing machines to create In-Stitches products. In time, Hugh was confident to try learning different skills in his employment and showed a great talent and passion for crochet!

To help him grow his skills and abilities, we worked with Hugh, supporting him to learn to template and cut recycled fabric into strips, that he then applied to patterns to create unique and colourful placemats, and then into fashionable crochet bags.

Today, Hugh is currently the only member of our In-Stitches team to create our crocheted products and takes pride in his work where he is able and encouraged to use his creative skills on the job. Hugh has some creative control of the products, from prepping the materials, through to the finished product, and is empowered to make colour and pattern choices himself – resulting in one-of-a-kind products that come in a variety of sizes, patterns, and colours.

We’ve loved supporting Hugh to make his dreams in meaningful employment come true and can’t wait to see his creative skills and abilities continue to grow into the future!
