Success for Murray-Darling Basin local
Before joining Mobo Group as a jobseeker, Lucille had been unemployed for a long time, had a lack of available transportation and confidence, and worse, a loss of her sense of culture and belonging with the Erawirung people of the Murray-Darling Basin. However, Lucille also came to Mobo with determination to get her life back to a place where she could be proud of herself, and where she could be supported to make valuable contributions to her community.
With the support of Mobo, she was able to create cover letters and resumes to help her apply for positions in the Murray Mallee area. Alongside that, to make it easier for her to find employment, Mobo worked to ensure that her phone always had credit and that she had access to a local driving instructor.
Reaching a place where she is ready to find employment and regain her sense of self, Lucille was able to visit schools as an educator to help teach the children of the culture and heritage of the First Nations people of the Murray-Darling Basin area, as well as finding success in other employment opportunities through the River Murray Malee Aboriginal Corporation (RMMAC).
For the previous nine months, Lucille has maintained employment with the RMMAC as a ranger. She participates in community events and learning opportunities, cultural heritage site preservation and conservation activities.
Along with other rangers, she has also advocated for the preservation of the water supply in the Murray-Darling Basin, being featured in an article written by the ABC in July 2022. Lucille loves her job. She is learning more about her own culture and heritage everyday which has helped her reconnect to her place among the Erawirung people.
The team at Mobo are so pleased with the opportunities that Lucille has gained through her employment, and hope that she continues to make positive strives towards the betterment of herself and her community.
